Mac or PC…The Big Question
Most of you have seen the Mac vs PC commercials, or have heard the jokes before. The truth is that typically people are die-hard fans of one or the other, rarely both. If you are in the market for a notebook computer, then you need to consider all your options, even if it is something you have never used before.
The major difference in the past between Mac and PC was the operation system. Most notebook PC users run Microsoft Windows in some variation, while Mac users have run OS X in some variation. While Mac’s OS X operating system is actually very easy to use, it still has a learning curve to it. With Mac’s OS X Leopard operating system, which comes with new Macs, you can run Windows and virtually eliminate the typical Mac learning curve.
Mac Pricing is different than the PC Pricing. Since Macs are different than PCs, they compete in a different way. While there prices are very competitive with PCs, they have clear price levels within their computers. Differences in prices correlate with changes in options, making it easy to see why there is a price difference between notebooks. With PCs, it can be a bit more challenging because there are so many notebook PC brands. This doesn’t mean that either is better or worse, they are simply different. What it will come down to is doing a little more planning if you get a PC.
Macs have been known as the perfect computer for the arts, such as photography, music, and graphic design. While PCs do have capable computers, the options in notebook form are limited. If you want to use your notebook for photography, music, or graphic design, I’d suggest getting a Mac. If you love video games, then you might have better options with a PC notebook.
The last thing to consider when choosing a Mac or a PC is style and appearance. Taking into consideration that you could probably find a Mac notebook or a PC notebook that would suit your needs, a Mac makes more of a style statement than many PCs. Mac users seem almost like a club. While it may be silly to resort to thinking about this when buying a notebook computer, keep in mind that how you feel about your notebook may be nearly as important as how it performs for you.
